樂趣、真實、生活與美語
Laugh
nd Learn: American English
《統雄美語樂學》不是一般的英語教學網站,而是願意和學生與朋友分享:英美語,不是考試、不是負擔;是生活、是對自己有用的工具。
Sean TX Wu's Laugh and Learn American English is not just another English-teaching website. It is a place where I share with students and friends a simple belief: English and American English are not merely subjects to be tested on or burdens to bear. They are part of life and tools that should be useful to us.

美語樂學:不讓老外緊張 Put foreign friends at ease
What passes for “Live English” in many
language-learning materials often amounts to teaching phrases like “What’s
up?” That may look like real-life English, but knowing how to say it is not
the same as knowing how to have a real conversation. You cannot just keep
asking classmates and colleagues “What’s up?” and expect to build a
meaningful connection.
I have noticed that Americans can become quite
tense when they first start talking to people from other countries. They
slow down and strain to catch every word. But if you can tell an appropriate
joke right away, the tension can disappear almost instantly. The
conversation can then move quickly into deeper discussion instead of getting
stuck at the level of small talk. My website aims to help people learn with
pleasure and communicate happily and confidently with people from other
countries.
Vocabulary, Pronunciation, and especially the Cultural Context of words and expressions in British and American English change much more rapidly than their counterparts in written Chinese and spoken Mandarin. That is why I draw attention to contemporary meanings, urban
usage, and colloquial pronunciations that many English-teaching websites
overlook.
Times change, and learning environments change with them.
Unlike when I was young, learners today no longer have to rely on the
limited resources available to those who had to learn through hardship and
persistence. Rather than starting with the heavy novels I discovered in
secondhand bookstores—works that explore humanity's struggles and progress
through history—I begin with engaging television series and songs readily
available online. Of course, readers interested in gaining a deeper
understanding of history will still find plenty of insight in the classic
works I mention.
Learning with pleasure still takes time: three months to
cultivate an interest and two years to build real proficiency. Expensive
programs advertised as teaching you English in seven days may cost a great
deal without necessarily producing lasting results. My website offers a free
Cinderella Project: The American English Makeover. To transform yourself
into an English-speaking princess, what you need to invest is at least three
months of perseverance—and the enjoyment you can experience along the way.
I have served as a visiting scholar or professor at three well-known
universities in the United States. Later, when National Taiwan University
and Shih Hsin University introduced English-medium instruction, I was among
the first group of seed teachers appointed to help lead the way. I also
received an outstanding teaching award in the United States. For a visiting
faculty member from another country, fluent, natural American English was a
fundamental requirement. What I share here is not a formal course, but
experience gained in the real world.

challenges, and practical strategies for teaching subjects in American
English across diverse cultural backgrounds.

shifts, Pronunciation evolutions, and Cultural Context nuances,
alongside effective teaching methodologies. Unlike traditional
textbooks, I weave human humor and anecdotes throughout — hoping you
will truly laugh and learn.
