94學年度第2學期課程綱要
Syllabus of Spring Semester, 2006
世新大學傳播研究所博士班
一、教學目標 Course Objectives
This seminar addresses accounts and theorists of internet and communications as systems. The goal of this seminar takes account of the inter-discipline of social sciences and information technology. The learning method focuses on problem solving oriented approach. The learning activity designates an assignment of literature review and requires two mini papers.
Since Taiwan is playing a distinguished role in information industry, there are lots of studies of the technical concerns with internet, such as authentication, cryptology, enclave network security etc. However, there is relatively less research related to its function as media and its impacts to broad social activities through the communication process. There is obviously a profound research focus on this new media channel.
This seminar attempts to respond the scarcity and to investigate the following:
-
Internet as media organization: a managerial approach.
-
Internet's message and its presentation: a content analysis approach.
-
Internet users as audience: a behavioral approach.
-
Internet's applications and its communication consequences: such as E-commerce, e-learning, digital divide, privacy, internet addiction...etc.
-
Methodological issues: regarding specific problems in internet research.
There are rich empirical findings on above fields in Northern America and European countries. This seminar encourages students to compare the worldwide relevant results and to develop cross-cultural perspectives.
The teacher found there were various results in different studies. The
conclusions were even not convergent in different release versions of same
research conductor. The different research methods and interpretation process
might produce the conflict.
Therefore, the examination of methodological issues will be a very significant
key in this seminar.
The teacher is the first and single researcher who has directed series survey on internet users' behavior in Taiwan. This seminar will lead students entering this promising interdisciplinary territory or getting ready for further research. It is an interactive place for students form pluralistic majors to enlighten and encourage each other. This seminar is engaging students who can take care of the whole thing and can look out the future.
Enjoy the seminar!
