一、教學目標

本課程旨在建立學生統計學的應用基礎，培養整合性資料分析能力。透過介紹統計的基本概論與方法，讓學生瞭解如何落實統計學的觀念，學習如何運用統計方法來做分析研究，並熟習相關的套裝軟體(例如：MS Excel、統計軟體SPSS)之應用。本課程將從資料的描述方式與方法開始，介紹實際資料處理的方式；再者介紹機率的概念、定義、各種機率分配，以及機率在統計的應用；並進一步以估計、假設檢定與迴歸分析為主，介紹統計推論的方法，同時佐以各類實際資料來進行統計分析。
透過本課程的學習，同學們可以：
-熟悉量化研究與資料蒐集的程序
-掌握資料的特性與統計分析的方法
-熟諳敘述性統計分析之方法
-瞭解推論統計之分析方法

本課程以應用統計學為主軸，考慮實務應用的需求、與科學知識發展的「知識論」與「方法論」基礎，故亦整合了相當於國內外管理學門中：研究方法、科學哲學、管理數學、統計軟體應用等課程的精華知識與技能。

The foci of the course are on statistical applications in empirical studies, the interpretation of results, the evaluation of the assumptions, and the discussion of what should be done if the assumptions are violated. Each statistics topic is presented in an applied context. How to use related software and programs (such as Excel and SPSS) with the study of statistics will be explained in the course. Students would be asked to work with data sets, both small and large, and be encouraged to look beyond the statistical analysis of data to the interpretation of results in an empirical(say managerial) context. During the course, instructor will:
-show students the relevance of statistics;
-familiarize students with the statistical applications used in the real world;
-provide clear instructions to students for using statistical applications; and
-give students plenty practices in understanding how to apply statistics to reality.

This course is an extended edition of applied statistics with emphases of practical requirements and scientific fundamentals of epistemology and methodology. Concise knowledge and techniques of related four courses in international higher education are digestedly included. The four courses are: research methodology, philosophy of science, managerial mathematics, and statistical software used in research.
